This is easy. My family has always been my inspiration. It sound generic and cliche' but I promise you that it is true. Hear me out.
It is common for African Americans to have a large family (sometimes that is not the case); but I have a large family. When I say family, I mean my immediate family, plus 1st generation aunts, uncles, and cousins ( I will go as far as my second cousins too a.k.a my 1st cousins children.)
95% of my family grew up in Calvert County, Maryland. We all lived 2 - 25 minutes away from each other so we spent a lot of time together. We grew up together, and some of stayed together and others grew apart. That is just how life goes. You live and learn from it.
I am 50% Ray (my mother's side) and 50% Myers (my father's side)
Immediate family
- Mom, 56 - retired elementary school teacher of 35 years.
- Dad, 58 - small business owner + retired Detective Sergeant of the Maryland State Police.
Add those two together and you get parents that expect you do the right thing.
- Brother 1/ Lonnie, 32 - Physicians Assistant (he was the oldest, and the goodie goodie)
- Brother 2 - Jason, 28 - IT Specialist (he is the middle child, so he was bad LOL)
- Me, the baby girl, the great one, 23 - (Graphics Specialist, and I am a goodie goodie with bad girl tendencies... I am a mixture of both siblings and both parents)
Break down of the sides:
Mom's - 5 brothers and 1 sister... 1st cousins - 15 total with 5, 2nd cousins (ages 1 - 8)
Dad's - 9 brothers and 2 sisters... 1st cousins - 15 total with 2, 2nd cousins (ages 1 - 2)
So all together: 17 aunts and uncles (not including their spouses)
30 first cousins
7 second cousins
So believe me when I say, that you learn a lot from having a diverse family. People do good things, some do really bad things. You can learn from all of them with almost any situation that you come across. I can go to them for inspiration, I can go to them for guidance. I reflect on their mistakes to avoid making them myself ( I do that A LOT).
I am a family oriented person, I hang out with mostly family. So they are my life. You look up to some, and you have younger family members that look up to me. So that is my logic behind Family Inspiration.
